Webinar: Creating Safe Spaces for the Undocumented Community Within Your Institution Join Pre-Health Dreamers and NAHN for a virtual learning experience, April 21 at 8:00 pm Eastern. This complimentary webinar is open to NAHN nurses, students and interested medical professionals. This workshop will raise awareness about the undocumented community and the challenges they face when pursuing nursing programs and accessing healthcare. PHD will discuss the "Power of Language," policies that support or negatively impact this population in their educational and professional journeys, the chilling effect, and how their immigration experiences influence their health and decision-making. Attendees will learn practical ways to support and create safe spaces for undocumented students, peers in healthcare, and the community as a whole. SPEAKER: Yadira Ortiz, Executive Director of Pre-Health Dreamers For nearly two decades, Yadira has worked alongside scholars, educators, and policy experts to advocate for changes in institutions that create access to and support undocumented students in higher education. Since 2019, she has served as the Executive Director of Pre-Health Dreamers, where she has focused on increasing access and support for undocumented students in medical programs. In this role, Yadira has also led advocacy in California and in programs nationwide to improve access and support for undocumented students pursuing nursing. She has provided training on policies supporting the advancement of undocumented students in health professions, and she works with students and their allies to help them overcome the barriers they face during their educational journeys.
