NAHN President to be Inducted as Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing

Washington, DC (May 18, 2012) — The National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) is pleased to announce that NAHN’s President, Angie Millan, MSN, RNP, CNS, will be inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) during the 39th AAN Annual Meeting and Conference in October 11-13, 2012, Washington, DC, in recognition for her outstanding contributions and achievements in nursing.

The American Academy of Nursing's approximately 1,800 Fellows are nursing leaders in education, management, practice and research. They include association executives; university presidents, chancellors and deans; state and federal political appointees; hospital chief executives and vice presidents for nursing; nurse consultants; and researchers and entrepreneurs.

“Angie clearly models the qualities of an AAN Fellow. Her leadership qualities, not only exercised in NAHN, but also anywhere she works and volunteers are clear,” said Celia Trigo Besore, MBA, CAE, Executive Director & CEO of NAHN. “Her comment when told about receiving this recognition was ‘this is about NAHN’ says it all. Congratulations, Angie. This recognition is well-deserved.”

“I am very honored to be selected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. I will continue to use my skills and knowledge to move the nursing profession forward,” said Angie Millan, MSN, RNP, CNS,. “Now there will be one more NAHN member at the Academy advocating for the healthcare needs of the underserved in our communities.”

Invitation to Fellowship is more than recognition of one's accomplishments within the nursing profession. Academy Fellows also have a responsibility to contribute their time and energies to the Academy, and to engage with other health care leaders outside the Academy in transforming America's health care system by:

• Enhancing the quality of health and nursing care;
• Promoting healthy aging and human development across the life continuum;
• Reducing health disparities and inequalities;
• Shaping healthy behaviors and environments;
• Integrating mental and physical health care; and
• Strengthening the nursing and health care delivery system, nationally and internationally.
